Where to stay in Ilhabela: choose your base

The right accommodation helps you use your island time well. Match its location to your itinerary, not just the room photograph.

Plan your itinerary first

Identify your priority activities and boarding point. Then compare accommodation addresses with those locations. Do not assume a tour departs outside your hotel.

Central areas and northern or southern beaches involve different journeys. The right base depends on transport, activity times and the people travelling with you.

Staying on a remote beach?

Bonete is reached by trail or sea. A stay there needs different arrangements for arrival, luggage and departure from a hotel accessible by car.

Do not book a flight or important appointment relying on a boat transfer with no buffer. Ask the accommodation how guests should plan when the sea prevents a scheduled crossing.

Confirm the details in writing

Ask about stairs, accessibility, parking, breakfast times, air conditioning, cots and policies for children or pets. Your group’s needs matter more than a generic amenities list.

Also check arrival times, luggage storage and cancellation terms. A view shown from a common area is not necessarily the view from your selected room.

Hotels and possible whale sightings

“Sea view” does not mean regular whale watching. Coastal orientation, space to scan the horizon and the animals’ movements all matter.

Before booking for that reason, ask for details of the viewing area and verifiable observations. The land-based watching guide explains why a possibility is not a promise.

What this guide recommends

Choose a base that suits your plans and confirm conditions directly. This page does not set rates. The partner stays listed above are Scalea recommendations; conditions and bookings are arranged directly with each property.

Other named recommendations, especially properties with whale records, require local validation. We do not describe a property as a whale-watching spot solely because of its view photograph.

This is a planning guide, not a booking service. Confirm facilities, rates and conditions with each accommodation provider.
