Visit by boat

On calm-sea days and only when conditions allow, boats may approach the formation. The city government itself emphasizes the importance of experienced boat operators, as proximity to rocks requires careful assessment of the sea.

Access by land

It can also be viewed from above. The access route mentioned by the city government crosses private property and may be subject to local rules and fees, which should be confirmed at the time of the visit.

Safety first

Buraco do Cação is an attraction where the decision to approach depends entirely on the day’s conditions. No photo is worth exceeding safe navigation or trail limits.

Visiting by trail

The overland visit differs from approaching by boat: it offers observation from above the coastline. Access is connected with the Bonete route and Fazenda da Laje, private land with its own entry conditions.

Arrange the route with an experienced guide and check permission, fees, meeting point and access conditions. We do not give a single walking time or shortcut directions here: it depends on your starting point and the permitted route.

A viewpoint is not a swimming area

Exposed edges bring fall hazards; soil, roots and rock can be slippery. Stay away from edges, follow signs and do not climb down to enter the fissure or the sea.

Do not move towards an edge for a photograph. Change plans in rain, thunderstorms, rough seas or closures. Compare alternatives in Hiking in Ilhabela.
